gigCalendar 1.0 FAQ: Q: Ok, cool. I've got Joomla / Mambo running, I installed the gigCalendar component, modules and mambot and am ready to rock. Now what? A: The first thing that most users will want to do is create a menu item linking to the gigCalendar component and publish the modules for display in the site template. These are simple tasks in the administrator backend of your website that you should already be comfortable with. Consult the built-in documentation for more info on creating menu items and publishing modules. If you want gigCalendar data to be returned in search results, you'll want to publish the mambot, as well. Secondly, you'll want to change the default data for your band or venue: For a single artist or band site: If you are using the gigCalendar for one band or artist, go to the bandManager and edit the default Band. For a venue or other site multi-bands: If you are using the gigCalendar for a venue or other multi-band site you should edit the default Venue by viewing the venueManager. The bandManager and venueManager are menu options available in the gigCalendar . Look for gigCalendar in the Components menu of your site's admin backend. Be sure that your band, gigs and venues are published. Once you've got your default Band and/or Venue established you can start adding Gigs like crazy. How much easier could it be? None, none more easier. Q: Can I use the gigCalendar to list events for multiple bands? A: Of course! The Band Name on the gigEditor Page defaults to the Default Band Name chosen in the bandManager but you can change the band for each gig. gigCalendar 1.0 contains a database system for Bands and Venues as well as Gigs. Q: Is there a way for someone other than admin to add/edit gigs/venues/etc...? A: The only way to edit the data in the gigCal is to have backend admin access to components. According to the Joomla documentation, this is limited to Administrators and Super Administrators. Q: I get SQL errors when trying to save settings. A: Turn Magic Quotes on. You might have noticed this in our Requirements. You may do this in your php.ini file or if you do not have access you can set "php_flag magic_quotes_gpc on" in a .htaccess file located in your apache htdocs directory. More info is available here: Q: Is the gigCalendar compatible with PHP 5? A: Nope, but neither are parts of the Joomla / Mambo core so its not really an issue yet. Obviously, this is on the gigCalendar Roadmap / Planned Features / Wishlist. Q: I'm trying to update my gigCalendar with the Opera browser and am having trouble choosing a date! Whassup? A: Sorry, the DHTML / JavaScript calendar that is utilized by Mambo is a few years old and not compatible with Opera as explained in the Mambo bug tracker. Upgrade to Joomla or wait for Mambo to upgrade their calendar. This will allow gigCalendar to play well with the Opera browser. Q: Hey? I can't see the mini-cal or the upcoming-gigs module. A: You have to publish them first. Go to the Site Modules and publish them. They will appear. Q: Currently, the upComing gigCalendar Module has a heading of "UPCOMING GIGCALENDAR" - where can I change that wording? I've been looking for it, but to no avail... A: Module Titles work the same for all of Joomla's modules. Follow these steps to change the Module Title of any of the modules on your website: - Choose Modules -> Site Modules
- Select "upComing GigCalendar"
- Edit the Title field, the first field under Details
From the Joomla help screen for Edit Module page: Title: Type or Edit the title of the module that you wish to display on the Front-end or Back-end of your site. Q: Aren't there any more questions? A: We can't think of any more that you might have - hopefully things are pretty clear. Post your questions to the support forum and we'll answer them there.
