Hi, after reading many posts, I believe this is somewhat original, or at least a more concise description of what some others are seeking.  For what it's worth, I am using gigCal for a single venue...

The only real problem I have with this excellent extension is this:  Multiple bands can not be scheduled for one gig.  I'll elaborate.

Suppose multiple bands, lets say 3, are going to play a show (gig) together at a venue.  The show starts at 8.  Advertisements and booking never clarify to the public at what exact times the bands play, even though they probably have it written down somewhere.  Maybe they figure it out at the last minute...  I'm not sure.  It seems like standard practice.

Gigcal doesn't help me with this problem.  Each gig is entered as if it's a separate show.  Since I don't know the exact play-times, I put the same time for each gig.  In list and upcoming views, there is repetition of the date, AND the time.  It makes it seem like they're separate shows all playing at the same time.   embarassed

I could make up times for the second and third bands or force the booking manager to be complete about that information, but then there will still be repetition of the date, which makes it seem that there are separate gigs, rather than one show.

I suppose there would have to be the capability of selecting the number of bands that will play a gig, and an option to display separate show-times for each band, or just one show-time for the whole show.  Also the gig details page would have to show details for all the bands together.

Upon further contemplation, a nice workaround would be the ability to hide the date and time of individual gigs.  This way only the first of the three bands would have date and time, and the others would be listed below them without this information.  I don't think this would work for calendar view though.  Besides that the gig details page would still only display one band at a time.

I know that was long-winded, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible.

gigCal is great stuff, I look forward to the next release.  I also hope this information is helpful.  If there is already some way to do this, please let me know!

Thanks.
Andre

Hiding the date and time in the list view is simple - change the template on the gigConfig List page in the backend. Simply remove the fields you don't want to display.

Multiple bands for one gig is a very popular feature request and one we'd love to be able to offer. Right now the developer base isn't in place to add this feature but we're hoping that more programmers begin to get interested in helping add features to gigCal.

Thanks for the detailed comments, much appreciated.

This excellent feature was available in the ill-fated version 1.1

There were several great ideas added to that version such as musical genre for bands, band listings etc.

I am another user that desperately needs the ability to display one set of gig details with 3 band listings both in the upcoming module (date/times bands 1, 2 and 3) and in the detailed listing (Gig title, headline band, support band, opener, venue)

I hope that this can be added soon - unfortunately, I'm not a php coder, but being a committee member for a blues/roots club gives me the experience to participate in feature brainstorming and beta testing.

Keep up the great work guys

PS: I love the Google Maps feature - would be nice to have that integrated rather than pop a window - and the "how to get there" feature that Google Maps offers it neat !!!

Can you explain what you mean by the how to get there feature? I thought that linking to a specific address with Google Maps automatically displayed a box labeled "Directions". Isn't this what you're talking about?

Agreed, there were some great features added to 1.1 but there were so many irate users on the forums with critical bugs that we felt we had to pull it. We don't have the man-power to fix the bugs so...here we are.

I hope that the Nightly Builds that are available for download are getting closer to a bug-free codebase to start adding features with. There was a lot of progress being made on the 2.0 version but we lost the two developers who were working on it so its development has slowed to a dribble.

If you are a motivated developer that wants to join a project with a great userbase - PM me and I'll get you signed up. We really need your help to make gigCalendar better.

Is there any update on when the mutiple bands feature will be available. It just that this is the only component that comes anywhere near my needs but without mutiple bands per event it won't be anygood and unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to change it myself.

Thanks

I am starting to work on the multi-band feature for 1.0.3. I'm estimating between two and four weeks. I'll be needing some knowledgeable testers. Check back soon...

Hi

I'm happy to test this for you - it's something we need on our new site (to be launched soon).

Hi

I would also be interested in testing this for you as it's a feature I desperately require for a new website I'm building.

Cheers

3 cheers to tritone for wanting to take this on. Does anyone want to mockup a UI for adding this to the existing add/edit gig page? I'd like to see some user-submitted examples of how you'd like to control multiple bands for one gig.

Thanks again, tritone!

One way that would be good, if possible, is something like the way you add images in content. On the left you have your list of bands which you can hightlight then click the arrow to add, then the bands would be displayed in the order they are added. Hope that makes sense.

4 bands should be enough...otherwise you might consider it as a festival...
'no band' selected also doesn't display anything.
Also added picture for displaying in the frontend.

For my purposes 4 would not be enough as I am using this for a nightclub and the line up can sometimes be as many as 10 acts.
